A while ago my husband was telling me about a story he heard. I don't know if it is true because I haven't been able to find any information to back it up. Nonetheless, he told me he heard that Chicago's fire departments had change some protocols in regards to putting out fires vs. letting them burn. He explained that supposedly if the fire is to dangerous and there is no one in the building, they will control the fire so it doesn't spread but let it burn the building up rather than risk the lives of their men. Again, I have no idea if this is factual but it got me thinking.
My husband is a Supervisor in the Corrections department of our county. He works in the reception section, so basically he knows a lot about who comes in and out of the prison. As far as our county is concerned, he can speak pretty well on the status of illegal immigrants in our jail. I didn't go so far as to ask how many illegals are in their right at the moment but he did mention that he has approx. 10 being deported every week. He didn't give me how many were coming in and how many were already there, he just gave me how many were being deported.
I would love to take a look at how much we are spending on illegal immigrants in our jails. I mean on all levels - Federal, State & County (local). I believe the amount of tax money being spent on illegals in jail should be used to deport them. And while we figure out the cost effectiveness of how much money it takes to house illegals in the prisons, I think it would also be a good idea to throw in how much money the crime they committed cost. For example, if they were in a car accident - what are the chances they are going to have insurance? My hubby just receive a guy the other day that plowed into a family in a van. He was busted and of course went to jail but now the family he hit - their insurance will have to cover not only the damage to the car but their medical bills should they incur any. I am sure the insurance companies would be extremely grateful to the government because of the money they and their customers would be saving.
Next thing to look at is how many are repeat offenders. There are some stories out there - I don't know how much they have changed but I have read articles (of course you can never find them when you need them) that informed the public on the difficulty of deportation from local agencies and therefore would have illegals coming back to jail as repeat offenders.
This site has loads of information and counters on how much money is going out of the country and our resources being used up by immigrants here illegally. The above is just one aspect and one of the most important because it deals with citizens and there safety.

Give them an inch...
You have got to be kidding me!
What kind of dialogue can you have with a man that supports terrorist and terrorism! What do you say? I know that you have been helping terrorist in Iraq by providing them aid but we forgive you for that, in fact, I believe you when you say that your nuclear program is peaceful. While we are on the subject, the US would like to help you out in that area. Friends?
Wasn't bad enough that he goes and parades our allies around for his propaganda. He is just waiting for one more thing. Think she will give it to him?

A Fallen Soldier's Father Complaint Makes Changes
A fallen Soldier's Father made a complaint as to how his son was being brought home. His complaint sparked the change from Congress - fallen soldier's will now be brought home on chartered flights rather than commercial airliners. You can read about it here.
While many of the stories I have heard about fallen military personnel being have been positive there are also the ones that have been very negative. Our fallen deserve nothing less than the highest respect and dignity along with their family. This way they will have it.

Nancy Palosi, please, sit down...
There are reasons as to why our President is not, has not and will not side down and talk with Iran and Syria. Top one being, they are helping terrorist. They are supplying, giving safe haven - whatever you want to call it - they are doing it. Yet this seems to be a concept that is over looked. I'm trying to figure out. Really - how do you sit down and have a conversation with someone when you KNOW the person you are talking with is part of the problem. Unless you don't see there is a problem.
This article talks about how Palosi is told she is a "brave women" for meeting with Syria. I can think of many things she is but "brave" - no, that isn't on the list. This is why - that country is giving aid to a bunch of people that think it is really brave to strap a bomb to their body, walk into a public place, and hurt and kill as many people as possible. Neither act sounds very brave to me. Oh, maybe in a sense - because your facing something really scary, yet laying on a train track when the train is coming - that has to be pretty scary too. Doesn't mean people are going to go do it unless they have a death wish.
I usually don't like the Washington Post but I have to say, I like this little piece. And to quote Forrest Gumpp "Stupid is as stupid does."
If you are going to carry a message for anyone - especially a really important one like the one she had - my suggestion, get a piece of paper and a pencil and do it 1st grade style - just so everyone can be sure. It goes a little something like this - Do you want to meet for peace talks: Check yes or no.
Palosi and Company - thank you for betraying your country. The country voted they way they did because they thought "we need a change". Guess they got what they asked for.

They are going home...
A present from the President of Iran. While I leave my banner up until they are actually there, it is wonderful news. The 15 British sailors & Marines will be on their way home after 13 days of captivity.
No more calling it what it is...
Military Times is reporting that the House Armed Services Committee will no longer allow the phrase "global war on terror" to be used in the defense budget in 2008. Why do you ask?
Catch phrase, you say? So for the last few years it's been a catch phrase and not an accurate description of what is going on? I suppose if you change the name it helps to forget that we are in a war on terror. Is that kind of like an ostrich sticking it head in the sand?
“There was no political intent in doing this,” said a Democratic aide who asked
not to be identified. “We were just trying to avoid catch phrases.”

Support our Allies! Free Them Now!
It is time to show that we support our allies just as they have supported us. Soldiers' Angels Europe has a way that you can do that. Go to their website and find out how. There are 15 British Marines that have been taken hostage by Iran. They need to know we are here backing them 110%!
